If you’re struggling to pick the perfect colors for your brand, this blog will help you speed up the process.

Cause I know that picking brand colors can feel a bit overwhelming. At this point, you’ve probably gone down the rabbit hole: reading articles, watching videos, and saving color palettes on Pinterest. But still feeling unsure.

Here’s where AI comes in and saves the day. Using AI to pick your colors works great if you just want something that looks good and gets the job done.

But if you’re looking to create something completely custom that represents you and your vibe perfectly? Then working with a strategist to create a custom brand might be more ideal.

That said, you are reading this because you probably just want to stop overthinking this and pick some colors right now.

So here are 3 ways to get started

  1. Create a mood board and ask AI to help you pick colors from it (this one is my favourite method)
  2. Upload a picture and ask AI to pick colors that work well together
  3. Explain the vibe you’re going for and ask AI to create a color palette based on it

What you need:

A free or paid ChatGPT or Claude account. My advice would be to use Claude because it usually does a better job.

All the images in this blog post were taken from Pexels, which is a stock website that allows you to download images for free, and this is what you can also use too.

1. Create a mood board and ask AI to help you pick colors from it

With this approach, I collected images and put them on a board (pictured below). You can easily do this in Canva.

And then I went into Claude and asked: “Help me find color palettes from this moodboard that work together. Give me the hex codes and show me what they look like”. And here’s what I got:

If you’re not sure what images to add to your mood board, you could try searching for the following on Pexels:

  • Home decor ideas
  • Nature aesthetic
  • Cafe aesthetics
  • Summer aesthetic(or insert whatever season you like)
  • Retro aesthetic

    You get the idea.

    2. Upload an image and ask AI to pick colors for you

For example, I uploaded this image into Claude:

woman in a dress and sneakers

And then I asked Claude and asked: “Help me find color palettes from this image that work together. Give me the hex codes and show me what they look like.”

    Here’s what I got:

    Not too bad.

    3. Explain the vibe you’re going for and ask AI

So let’s say you’re looking for a minimalistic color palette…then you could go into Claude and ask : “help me find a minimalistic color palette. Give me the hex codes and show me what they look like”.

This is what I got :

    minimalistic color palette

This felt a bit meh and masculine, so I continued to ask “ Give me something more feminine but keep it minimalistic”. And I got:

    minimalistic and feminine color palette

This isn’t wow, but it’s a bit better

Let’s say you wanted richer colors and you didn’t want AI to give you pink-ish colors just because you’re a woman, you could try: “ Give me richer colors instead of muted colors and don’t use pink-ish colors”:

So you might have to continually talk to AI to get something that you like, as I’ve just shown you.

Here are more vibes you could try:

    • Minimalist Color Palette
    • Bold and Energetic Color Scheme
    • Vintage-Inspired Color Palette
    • Nature-Inspired Color Scheme
    • Pastel Hues for Soft Branding
    • Boho Chic Color Palette
    • Earthy and Warm Tones
    • Neon Pop Colors for Bold Design
    • Coastal Vibes Color Scheme
    • Sunset-Inspired Color Palette
    • Feminine Color Palette for Branding
    • Luxury and Elegant Color Scheme
    • Muted Tones for a Sophisticated Look
    • Winter-Inspired Color Scheme
    • Retro 80s/90s Color Palette
    • Soft Neutrals for Calm Spaces
    • Dark and Moody Color Scheme
    • Warm Autumn Color Palette

The one additional thing you absolutely have to ask for

The colors for your text. Sometimes the AI tool you use will help with this, but sometimes they don’t, so once you’ve picked a color palette, ask Claude or ChatGPT, “Please give me colors I can use for my text that complement my color palette and are accessible, use the current brand colors you just chose when possible”

Let’s say you’ve picked your colors, but you feel a bit unsure

Then let’s chat about it. As a strategist and designer, I’ll give you advice on your colors so that you can feel confident using them. You can sign up for a one-time review with a video walkthrough, or you can sign up for a week of Voxer or email support, where you can ask me anything that comes up when it comes to your brand.

Additional things you could ask include:

    • Which design options to pick(if you have a million ideas and you’re struggling to pick one)
    • How to make your DIY brand or website look less DIY
    • Where to get started building your personal brand
