What to Have Ready Before We Work Together on Your Brand or Website

If the thought of hiring a designer or a strategist makes your stomach do a quick flip, you are in very good company.

Most people who reach out to me feel a fair bit of anxiety. They ask themselves questions like:

"What if I pick someone who's not a good fit or won't get me?"

"What if she asks me questions I don't know the answer to?"

"What if I spend money I don't have yet on something that doesn't even work?"

If any of those thoughts are doing laps in your head right now, that is 100% normal. Investing in your business is a big deal and I get it.

Here are three things I can promise you:

  • You're in good hands. I know you have no reason to believe that since we don't know each other but most of my past clients usually start out feeling nervous but end up walking away with something they love and can't wait to show off. (Check out my reviews page to see what they had to say!)
  • I've got answers for your questions: I created a page specifically to address every question you might have which you can view here. But if that's not enough, you can always reach out and ask me anything directly.
  • There's no rush to invest right away. Instead, you can hang out, get to know me, and follow along on socials (I love Threads and Pinterest!), or join my email newsletter to stay in touch until you're ready.

What You Need Before We Start

If We're ONLY Working On Your Website

Just toss these into a Google Drive folder (or something similar), and you're good to go!

  1. Your domain name. This is your website address, like yourbusinessname.com. If you don't have one yet, don't sweat it, we can pick one out together!
  2. Photos. Pictures of you that you'd love on the site, or product photos if you sell physical goods. If you're low on pics, I'll mix in stock photos that fit your exact aesthetic.
  3. Your existing branding. Colors, fonts, logos, or favicons you already use. This is only needed if we're only building your website. If not, we'll create your brand design together first!
  4. Your copy (the words on your website). These can be brain-dumps of what you want each page to say. Don't worry about making it sound perfect, we'll review it together and I'll give you more direction. Of if you can, hire a copywriter.
  5. Websites you "kinda hate." Jot down 2 or 3 websites you absolutely dislike! Showing me what makes you hate is honestly just as helpful as showing me what you love.
  6. Your website goals. A simple idea of what you want the site to do (collect emails? sell products? get people to book a call?). Knowing the goal shapes everything I build.
  7. Your audience and "heck-no clients." Who do we want to attract? And who do you definitely not want knocking on your door?

If We're Creating Your Brand

  1. A Pinterest board. Acollection of saved images, colors, textures, fonts, and vibes you're drawn to. Here's an example of one I put together for a client. If you're not a Pinterest girlie, zero worries, feel free to skip this!
  2. Your audience and "heck-no clients." Who are we designing for, and who are we intentionally ignoring?
  3. 2-3 competitors (other small businesses). A couple of direct competitors in your space so we can see what they're doing, and figure out how to make you stand out.

What We Can Figure Out Together

Here is what we'll tackle hand-in-hand:

  • Picking the right website platform. We'll find the absolute best, easiest-to-use home for your website together.
  • Polishing your website copy (if you didn't hire a copywriter). You don't need to be a professional writer. I will be reviewing your copy to ensure that the words on your website will resonate with your people.
  • Your messaging and offers. Clarifying how to clearly say what you do, why it matters, and why you're so good at it.
  • Creative ideas and strategy. Bouncing around fun ideas, dialing in the design details, and making sure your brand and website looks and feels 100% like you.

Wanna book your project for later this year?

Fill out my contact form and let me know when you'd like to start and if I have availability you'll get first dibs. For transparency you would have to pay a deposit first to secure your spot which can be 8-30% of the total project fee, depending on the project and your budget. Also, I don't bite, so if you need a custom payment plan, holla at your girl. We can always spread your investment over a longer timeline or structure a custom payment plan.

Need a month? A quarter? 6 months? No problem.

If you’re on holiday, in a crazy busy season, saving up, or just getting your ducks in a row for later this year, that's cool. Just to be transparent: I only take on up to 3 clients at a time so I can focus properly on the work. This isn't a sales tactic to rush you into booking today (cause we don't do that here). Definitely take all the time you need! But if you think you’ll want to work together later this year, it might be a great time to start chatting.

Meanwhile let's stay connected. You can either connect with me on Threads, on Pinterest, or join my newsletter (which is the best option considering that sometimes you'll follow someone online only for the algorithm to stop showing them to you). From one fellow lurker to another you can lurk as long as you need until it feels right. So lurk away ;)

And If You’re On Threads...

Join me there. I create content to help make online visibility feel less like stepping on a stage and more like chatting with friends. That's also where I show all 67 sides of my personality and where I talk more about non-business topics because business doesn't happen in a vacuum and pretending it does is kinda weird.
